Mother Daughter Date Ideas!

Mother Daughter in LA

I thought I would share with you all a quick post about some of my mom and I’s favorite LA/general life activities in honor of it being Mother’s Day Weekend!

My Mom and I have definitely formed our own LAist schedule when she visits. A visit will almost always include shopping, eating, and exploring somewhere new. I wanted to share a few of our favorite spots in each of those categories in case you are searching for mother/daughter (or son) date ideas in LA or in your city. All of our ventures are easily transferable but of course I recommend you take part in the LA specific suggestions because after all - this is my favorite city…and I am pretty sure it’s now my mom’s too!

We LOVE 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. We also LOVE The Grove. We have a tradition of finding matching tops at Madewell and generally browsing every other store. We are super good at encouraging the other to “just buy it!” or buying it for each other. What I love about LA is that there are so many amazing OUTDOOR shopping spaces which you can explore year round due to our glorious weather (I told you I would sell the LA trip!) I love that we can get outside while also getting lost in the shoppes. We have shopped together since I was born, so I cannot imagine a mother daughter date without it! The Grove also has an amazing fountain display, trolley car, farmer’s market stalls and even performances during the Holidays. It really is a great one stop shop for entertaining.

How cute does my mom look from The Grove balconies?!

The Grove LA

After all of our shopping, we usually need a respite and I was so excited to take my mom to Ladurée, which opened at The Grove a couple years ago. I am obsessed with this Parisian staple and new it would be the perfect spot for a mother daughter brunch. I highly recommend the french toast with rose creme! It was so good we even put the rose creme in our coffees. The outdoor terrace also offers beautiful views of the park at The Grove and overlooks the lighted trees and fountain.

Another new favorite spot of mine if you are in the Miracle Mile area is Milk Jar Cookies. OMGOSH. They are so good. The shop itself is adorable and sort of hidden amongst a throng of corporate buildings on the strip. They offer coffee, milks and of course cookies. Their shabby chic decor makes dining in sweet but they also offer some outdoor seating if that’s more your speed! We loved going there with some friends and their baby boy. Cookies and milk with a baby - what could be better?!

Although we love dining out in LA, we always try to incorporate a good old home cooked meal. Our latest obsession is homemade pizzas which are super fun to grill on the BBQ when mom - or dad - come to town. My mom loved being able to relax with us (in our natural habitat) and get a glimpse of our more normal life.

Don’t feel pressured to always entertain your mom out on the town, sometimes cooking at the apartment can be just as special!

LA is never short of new places to wonder around or catch an amazing view. Although we love places like the Getty Museums or the Griffith Observatory, I still try to think of unique experiences for my mom when she visits. One thing she doesn’t have in Cleveland is the ability to wine taste on a vineyard, so a new favorite place to bring her (and really anyone) is Malibu Wines. They offer tons of tables and you can even bring your own picnic while you enjoy the wine. They offer live music, small pop up shops and even a safari! For the wine loving mom, you cannot beat Malibu Wines. There are gorgeous views of Malibu canyon and being able to enjoy your own brought Trader Joes spread makes it super affordable. And of course, the wine is great!

Another great spot to bring mom for a truly magical time is the “Urban Light” exhibit outside of the LACMA museum. Free to the public and super easy to access, these lamp posts are a photographer’s dream. My mom and I LOVE taking photos and the LACMA lamp posts provide such a fun and easy way to capture our time together in a super-unique-to-LA-way. I cherish time with my mom so much and I love that we have so many fun photos to look back on!

That last photo of my mom is one of my favorites :)

I hope these help inspire you to treat your mom while she is in town! Whether in LA or your city, hopefully you find fun and unique things to do with your parents. Nothing beats quality time with those that you love and remember that simple and easy is just as great as something fancy. At the end of the day, your mom just wants YOU. Treat her to a mix of the every day (hello Homegoods trip) as well as the unique…which LA never has too much of.
