I am so grateful that my girlfriends share many many obsessions - chief among them being period dramas. When my BF Sarah and I discussed throwing our incredible friend Jordan a shower we knew it had to be a Downton Abbey themed tea. I have to say, it was one of my favorite events ever.
We expected a small and intimate gathering of about 12 or so ladies that day. We used the long backyard of my duplex as the setting and laid a long table of white lines and fresh florals. We used a mix match of mine and Sarah’s collective china sets to preset place settings for each guest. I thought the pink —- and babies breath complemented the colors of the china so well and created a sort of airy and dreamy tablescape.
As a favor to take home - but also to enjoy during the shower - we placed a string of pearls and an embroidered handkerchief in each tea cup (both from Amazon!). It was a simple and thoughtful way to tie in the theme but also make each lady feel pretty and prepped for the feels which were to come.
We served a selection of tea sandwiches, mini scones with jam and lemon curd as well as fresh cut fruit (all from Trader Joes!). We opted for a fresh tea option (Red Hibiscus from Trader Joes) which also happened to be one of Jordan’s absolute favorites. We did a simple game of “He Said:She Said” as we recounted some of the highlights of Jordan and Evan’s love story.
After a long tea filled with lots of laughs, stories, affirmations of our Bride-to-Be (and the appropriate amount of hugs and tears) we adjourned to the lawn to open gifts. I set up some large white picnic blankets so we could enjoy Jordan and her beautiful sisters against our pseudo county backdrop.
It was the most perfect way to say “We love you” to our gorgeous Lady Jordan. It was a sea of white, joy and smiles which I won’t forget for a long time yet to come.
Until the next party!
