As I've gotten older I've learned that the best way to travel is to have a balance of must-have destinations and flexible expectations. Read on to learn more about what my family did on our vacation to South Lake Tahoe!Read More
Every year since my husband and I started leading a small group Missional Community, we have retreated to Lake Arrowhead for the weekend. Our entire MC packs for a weekend and we caravan up through the San Bernadino mountains to what has become one of my favorite places on earth.Read More
Last weekend our church pastors took all the missional community (MC) leaders away to a retreat in Oceanside, California. Jeff and I had little expectations going into the weekend but we're excited to see some place new. We barely had time to really think about the weekend before we were packed in the car with 3 other friends and driving down the 405 South.Read More
I hate camping...and I don't love the great outdoors.
There, I said it.
I know I know, how could anyone not like being outside when they live in LA? Now, don't read me wrong, I am referring to the great outdoor forests and mountain landscapes that hikers, campers and explores love to spend their weekends and vacations around. I just prefer a congested concrete city and a developed coastline.Read More
During our stay in San Francisco, we wanted to be sure we spent a good deal of time exploring and getting a bit lost. It was easy to eat and drink our way around the city, but we wanted to be sure we enjoyed both our stay at the urban sprawl around us. For Part 2 of our 24 Hours In San Francisco I wanted share a bit about where we stayed and what we saw along our walks.Read More

To celebrate our 2 Year Wedding Anniversary, Jeff and I drove up the coast to spend a Saturday in Santa Barbara.
We had been talking about it and talking about it for what felt like AGES and we FINALLY just got in the car and did it.Read More
YOU GUYS...this might be one of my favorite blog posts to date. The other weekend myself, Jeff and our friends Caleb and Marinna hopped in our hatch-back and drove to the ever-instagrammable Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve. After Southern California experienced her long awaited "Super Bloom", the reserve was flooded with visitors and my social media feed was flooded with photos of the spectacular orange colored hills.Read More
In late February our missional community small group (affectionately known as Tall House) went on our 2nd annual retreat up to mountains of Lake Arrowhead.
After almost doubling our group in size (praise God) we still managed to find an amazing Air BnB that comfortably housed all 15 of us. Because of our need for a larger house, we also managed to get one of the gorgeous properties right above the Lake. Our house featured 2 large back desks with panoramic Lake views, cathedral windows and an awesome finished basement with a pool table.Read More
After a delicious picnic lunch at Rideau Vineyard, we made our way over to Solvang Danish Village for shopping and desserts. Rooted in Danish heritage, Solvang Village offers a wide variety of shops, tasting rooms, meeting places, museums and historic churches. Of course our first stop was for some classic danish treats.Read More
Every 3 months our womens' ministry holds an outing or day trip for the ladies in the church. After the success of our Girl's Night In, we ventured out of LA towards Santa Barbara for an afternoon of wine tasting and exploring. We chose Rideau Vineyards in Solvang and it provided the perfect backdrop for our picnic.Read More
We awoke on Sunday morning to another perfectly clear day in Arrowhead. After a long relaxing breakfast (at which point we realized 8 crescent sausage rolls had been consumed) we sluggishly went about packing up the house. I was sad to be leaving such an incredible place. And even though only 36 hours had passed, it felt like we had spent a whole week in our wood paneled home.Read More
Breakfast on the deck was the best way to start our Saturday at the Lake. After some open and honest conversations about what it would look like to reorient our lives around these desires, we reoriented our day to spend the afternoon together at Deep Creek. It's amazing how quickly vulnerability can turn into reliability. We all got closer that morning and didn't want to leave each others' sides during our open time.Read More
Late last year, our Missional Community decided to take a vacation together. We researched various SoCal hot spots and perused the selection of Air BnB's in our area. We were thinking of renting a house near the city but the more we talked about the trip we realized we wanted it to be out in nature. We immediately fell in love with the idea of a mountain top adventure and moved forward with plans to spend a weekend in Lake Arrowhead. It came to be the perfect opportunity for rest and creation for our little God family.Read More
Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am OBSESSED with flowers. Ever since I was younger, I have had an obsession with all things floral. From the first rose my Dad cut for me, to the bouquets my husband still brings me - I have loved collecting and experiencing flowers.
When Laurie suggested we spend Monday morning at the Flower Farm Inn in Loomis I was immediately smitten. How could this not be a great start to the day? We arrived just in time for brunch and enjoyed our plates out on the back patio. It was an odd but quant little area, near an old water mill and pond. It was sunny and peaceful and a cool alternative to somewhere like The Porch. Dining out while traveling can definitely add up but I liked that we got to explore different spots while we were up in the area.Read More
On Saturday morning, Laurie suggested we go to one of her favourite brunch spots near the Capitol Building. I was anxious to see downtown Sac so we dropped off the kiddos and made our way toThe Porch Restaurant and Bar.
Although the restaurant had a spacious interior we thought it was more befitting that we sit on the actual porch. The sun was high and it was such a warm day - too warm to not enjoy a little out door breakfast. The menu was full of country classics done with an elegant twist. I opted for the Avocado Scramble and shared some of Laurie's delicious Grilled Brie. Daniel ordered the classic Biscuit and Eggs and Jeff chose the Hash-Up.Read More
I have lived in LA for almost 5 years but have explored very little of California. On my checklist was to explore the state capital so last labor day weekend Jeff and I travelled up to Sacramento.
We began on Friday with a drive to Placer County to see my brother and sister-in-law in Rocklin. Their colorful and well designed home is nestled right near Roseville and is in the heart of the greater Sacramento metropolitan area. It was nice to leave the city and get a fresh perspective on suburban California life.Read More
I love bachelorette parties. I love the idea of whole weekend devoted to eating good food, dressing up, going out and all in the company of close girlfriends. I've attended quite a few amazing Bachelorette weekends. For mine, however, I wanted it to be shorter and more cost effective so that more [mom] friends would be able to participate.
I knew that it would be in the SoCal area and had pitched a few ideas to my MOHs Sarah and Loee. I had no idea that what they planned would match my hopes so perfectly.Read More
