Faith & Flower Happy Hour

Faith & Flower Happy Hour

On of my favorite spots to dine and chat in all of LA has to be Faith & Flower. Soon after we were married, Jeff took me on a date to this art deco restaurant and ever since it has been one of our top choices for fine dining in the city.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon we drove downtown with our friends Sydney and Jon to experience Faith & Flower's famous Dollar Oyster Happy Hour. This was my first time trying the polarizing seafood but I knew Jon and Sydney (who are obsessed with the dish) would be the best people to encourage me on to try it.

Downtown Diaries: Grand Central Market

Downtown Diaries: Grand Central Market

One of my favorite aspects of the booming Downtown LA scene is the food. Jeff and I recently discovered Grand Central Market on an adventurous day out with my parents. It was the perfect place to bring them as an introduction to DTLA and provided an exciting backdrop to eat delicious treats amidst the bustle of the busy streets.

Downtown Diaries: The Last Bookstore

Downtown Diaries: The Last Bookstore

In a culture where the physical bookstore is slowly becoming obsolete, The Last Bookstore (most aptly named) lies nestled in the heart of downtown LA on the corner of 5th and Spring. When Loee suggested we visit the store I expected a small boutique akin to Meg Ryan's "Shop Around The Corner" in You've Got Mail. The last thing I thought I would find was a towering two-story labyrinth of books. And they do in fact call their archive The Labyrinth.

Downtown Diaires: A + D Museum

I had the privilege of attending the Architecture and Design Museum's inaugural exhibition at their new location in the Downtown LA Art's District.

SHELTER: RETHINKING HOW WE LIVE IN LOS ANGELES brought together a collection of residential concepts for how we could better preserve space and reduce waste. It was incredible to see how diverse the proposals were, ranging from sponge filtration systems to aggregated units where there is currently unused land. The exhibit focused on the potential of the Wilshire Corridor and how new public transit systems and technologies can benefit the city and help solve the local environmental and housing crises.

Downtown Diaries: Faith & Flower

Jeff and I don’t often treat ourselves to LA’s upper-scale eateries. We usually prefer to eat local (Westside) and keep things budget friendly for the everyday Angeleno. On this occasion, however, Jeff wanted to take me out on the town and explore a spot he had been recommended to more times than he could count. On a late Saturday evening, we made our way downtown to Faith & Flower at the corner of East 9th and South Flower Street.

Downtown Diaries: Bottega Louie Brunch

Here is the next chapter of my Downtown Diaries. My best friend, Loee, and I set aside an entire day to spend together in downtown LA. Even though we got caught in the rain after some fresh blow-outs, we were determined to continue our girl-date!

We walked a whole 2 blocks from the hair salon to brunch at Bottega Louie The restaurant is located at Wilshire and South Hope street and OhMy. Goodness. I have never been more enamored with an eatery. I had sampled their food via Uber Eats (a delicious lunch delivered in a bright pink box) but I had no idea the source was so palatial.

Downtown Diaries: Blow-Outs at Neihulé Salon

My life long best friend Loee and I have celebrated our birthdays together since we were 9. The last couple summers we opted out of traditional gifts and chose to celebrate with a day trip. Last year we went to Catalina Island and this year we spent the day getting lost in our very own Downtown LA. After combing through the options and selecting a few of the activities that we have always wanted to do, we both agreed that a little pampering and some good old fashioned girl time was in store for our birth-day-out.
