Lodge Bread and Ginger's Divine Ice Cream

Lodge Bread and Ginger's Divine Ice Cream

The other day we went on a double date with 2 of our best friends Loee and Joel. We opted to stay local and check out the new bread shop which had started to serve pizza and beer.

Lodge Bread is located on Washington Blvd just west of the 405 in Del Rey. We had been hearing about their amazing bread and figured the pizza (and pizza dough) must also be amazing.

Faith & Flower Happy Hour

Faith & Flower Happy Hour

On of my favorite spots to dine and chat in all of LA has to be Faith & Flower. Soon after we were married, Jeff took me on a date to this art deco restaurant and ever since it has been one of our top choices for fine dining in the city.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon we drove downtown with our friends Sydney and Jon to experience Faith & Flower's famous Dollar Oyster Happy Hour. This was my first time trying the polarizing seafood but I knew Jon and Sydney (who are obsessed with the dish) would be the best people to encourage me on to try it.

Downtown Diaries: Grand Central Market

Downtown Diaries: Grand Central Market

One of my favorite aspects of the booming Downtown LA scene is the food. Jeff and I recently discovered Grand Central Market on an adventurous day out with my parents. It was the perfect place to bring them as an introduction to DTLA and provided an exciting backdrop to eat delicious treats amidst the bustle of the busy streets.

Beachside: Martha's 22nd Street Grill

I'm blessed to live about 30 minutes from my Aunt Felicia here in LA. Every few months we make a point of getting together at one of ours or out in the city to eat and catch up on life. The other Saturday, we met up in the middle at Martha's 22nd Street Grill in Hermosa Beach.

Our LA Favorites: Vinoteque on Melrose

Our LA Favorites: Vinoteque on Melrose

When Jeff and I started dating he wanted to take me out on a fancier date in the city and so my best friend Sarah recommended Vinoteque on Melrose Ave. I had been wanting to have a fancy night out with my new (at the time) boyfriend and Jeff surprised me with the most romantic evening at this charming little restaurant. Since then, we have been back to Vinoteque to celebrate various holidays and milestones. We have brought family and friends and it has quickly become one of our all time favorite spots to eat in Los Angeles.

Second Sundays: Blending Our Backgrounds in Little Ethiopia

Our Missional Community small group spends the Second Sunday of every month out in the city in the hopes that our hearts will continue to grow for LA and that we will discover new places to dine or hang out.

Our first Second Sunday was spent at a local Indian restaurant and for this outing we kept in tradition and explored another cultural gem in LA - Little Ethiopia on Fairfax avenue just south of Olympic Blvd.

Thai Tour #3 A La Carte Thai Bistro

Thai Tour #3 A La Carte Thai Bistro

Jeff and I pride ourselves on being locals at our neighborhood eateries and bars. However, our love of thai food had not yet brought us down the road to A La Carte Thai Bistro on Washington Blvd just west of Centinella Avenue. We went on a Wednesday night and were surprised to find the place empty. We savored the early dinner hour and decided to stretch out across the front booths all by ourselves.

B Sweet Please

B Sweet Please

I discovered B Sweet when trying to show out-of-town friends that LA has an amazing dessert scene. The first time I went was an absolute mish'. We had just finished Sunday dinner and realized the restaurant closes at 8 pm. At 7:40, I called the restaurant and begged them to stay open for us (a party of 12) and promised we would be there in 15 minutes. Not only did they keep the doors open but they also gave us some of the best service and desserts I have had to date.

The other night my friend Brianna and I made our way back to B Sweet as a craving had grown quite strong since my first visit. The shop is located in the heart of Sawtelle's Little Osaka district. Although it is small and the line grows quite long (always a good sign) the servers move quickly. We have never had to wait to long for our treats.

Downtown Diaries: Faith & Flower

Downtown Diaries: Faith & Flower

Jeff and I don’t often treat ourselves to LA’s upper-scale eateries. We usually prefer to eat local (Westside) and keep things budget friendly for the everyday Angeleno. On this occasion, however, Jeff wanted to take me out on the town and explore a spot he had been recommended to more times than he could count. On a late Saturday evening, we made our way downtown to Faith & Flower at the corner of East 9th and South Flower Street.

Food and Games at Picnic LA

Food and Games at Picnic LA

A couple weeks ago, my friend Lindsay and I met up in Downtown Culver City to enjoy some lunch and catch up time. As Downtown Culver is one of my favorite areas in all of LA, I was so excited that a new restaurant had opened in what was once an empty shop corner at Culver Blvd. and Duquesne.

This particular corner boasts a gorgeous street view of Culver City City Hall, it's gardens and the historic Culver Theatre (now known as the Kirk Douglas).  I used to frequent the same spot years ago when it was a french restaurant. Now, Picnic LA has reclaimed the space as farm-to-table eatery boasting an assortment of incredible seasonal dishes and desserts.

Thai Tour #2: Hoy-Ka in Hollywood

Earlier this month, Jeff and I hosted a friend from Chicago and wanted to show him one of our classic LA weekends. Amidst shopping at the Promenade and drinks at Alibi Room, we snuck up to Hollywoodland for Improv comedy and Thai food. Jeff did some research and found Hoy-Ka Thai to be amongst the highest rated Thai restaurants in LA. We went for it.

My Favorite Ice Cream ~ Salt & Straw

My Favorite Ice Cream ~ Salt & Straw

I love desserts. I consider myself a connoisseur of the delectable and an obsessor over the sweet. I am fortunate because LA has so many incredible dessert spots and it's own collection of uppity and unique ice cream shops.

When my best friend Sarah flew into LA for the weekend, she suggested we check out the westside's latest cool house addition Salt & Straw.

Best. Decision. Ever.

Downtown Diaries: Bottega Louie Brunch

Downtown Diaries: Bottega Louie Brunch

Here is the next chapter of my Downtown Diaries. My best friend, Loee, and I set aside an entire day to spend together in downtown LA. Even though we got caught in the rain after some fresh blow-outs, we were determined to continue our girl-date!

We walked a whole 2 blocks from the hair salon to brunch at Bottega Louie The restaurant is located at Wilshire and South Hope street and OhMy. Goodness. I have never been more enamored with an eatery. I had sampled their food via Uber Eats (a delicious lunch delivered in a bright pink box) but I had no idea the source was so palatial.

Thai Tour #1: Thai Taste in Venice

Thai Tour #1: Thai Taste in Venice

My husband Jeff and I LOVE Thai food. Thai is our go-to food of choice anytime we have a date night or go out with friends. I fell in love with this far east food during my early days as a production assistant. I often went on dinner runs to the area Thai restaurants and have since developed an obsession with yellow curry, crab puffs and Thai iced coffee. This year, Jeff and I decided to expand and do a proper "Thai Tour" of LA. We of course had to start at our local spot House of Thai Taste on Venice Blvd in Venice.
